I was playing a .25/.50 cash game the other night, lots of loose callers. Im dealt KK in middle position. One guy raises to $3 pre flop before me. I have a $20 stack here, and i push it all in. One guy calls, the original raiser folds. Cards are turned over, the one caller has 33 and Im happy. Flop is blank. Turn is a 3, im dead. I asked why he called with pocket 3s and he said he thought i had AK or AQ and would ALWAYS call with any low pair in that position.
I would never call an all in with 33 unless maybe im a large stack in a tourney and short stack pushes with no other callers. But in a cash game to call an all in with 33?
Thoughts on this...
After that hand i was now 0-14 on my last AA and KK. Its sick. |

Generally not a loose strategy to go all-in with low pocket pairs pre-flop. You're only a 13-10 favorite against over cards, and a 4-1 underdog to high pocket pairs (so think of it this way... the next four times this guy calls you, you're taking his cash. Yes, I know it's 4-1 over the long run, but still, you made the right play). If the over-cards are suited, the chances are closer to 12-10 or 11-10. Basically, it's a gamble, and that player likes to gamble. That's why he's a loose player.
So yes, it was a terrible play and he got lucky (8% chance to hit trips on the next two cards after the flop turns up blank). Just keep playing with this guy, because, like I said, you'll make your money back x3. |

That's not a good strategy, though as you saw, they hit another three or even 2 pair then they can easily take you out with very little in hand.
It's risky, I'd be pissed off at losing to that, but you know - it happens. |

A little low, in fact very low - unless I saw another 3 come up then I would be outta there, never mind matching all-in!
Very risky, very loose - remember that one for future reference. |

| Yeah, that's crazy talk. Maybe if you're on your way out and looking to double up instead of footing a few BB/SB's and going out that way, but otherwise I wouldn't be too keen on a pair of 3's/ |
