Chicago Allowed Video Gambling Crackdown

CHICAGO – As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times: "Let the crackdowns begin.
"That's the message the Appellate Court of Illinois delivered Wednesday, allowing the City of Chicago to enforce get-tough rules for video gambling machines and bar owners who operate them.
"The city first tried to enact tougher rules governing the devices in 1998, but that effort was struck down by then-Cook County Judge Aaron Jaffe, who said the ordinance was 'too vague.'
"In 2001, the City Council again ushered in new rules that would grant police greater authority to seize machines and level fines against those caught with illegal gambling devices -- but again, the ordinance was challenged in court by those who run the machines…" |

| It's a harsh crackdown, but probably a necessity - too many people run games which don't abide by rules that are set to prevent people from being exploited. It's hard on the average bar owner who isn't doing any harm, but then again ignorance is no excuse I suppose. |
