I post this in my thoughts of when to bet out a mediocre hand, check and call, or to check and raise 'to find out where I am'- but this topic could be expanded and discussed about for days about when to bet out, check and call, or check and raise a 'nut' hand.(that problem is a little easier to play then the first, though!Smile

Soooooooooooooo

This applies to both NLHE and NL!
Example: You hold Q-10o in the BB and have just sat down at a new 10-20 limit game 6 handed. The Sb and one other limp to you and you check behind. Board comes down

K-10-2 rainbow

Say the SB checks, you check and the free limper bets out and SB folds!
Should you have bet it out here, check raise, check fold or check and call?
My main goal in posting this out there to you all is to get to a conclusion on whether it's easier for a player to call an initial bet, or a check raise.

They may think 'what the hell, already in for a half bet... why not another half?' with the check raise. Betting out into them may be a better choice... though I guess it's all about table image and what they put you, as a player(but if there's no table image...). If I'm in ultra aggressive mode and betting out ANY pair or high card, the choice here is obvious- BET. BUT, when I'm in a more of a tight/aggressise image... what would the right play here to be? And, of course... with the example above I'm attempting to find out where I am in this hand while figuring if I should be calling this down or not....

So, same hand: I bet out as the BB and get raised... with Q/10 and a board of K-10-2 rainbow... when I'm raising... do I just fold right there? Or do I pay to see my draw? A queen may not even be a good card for me... and the chances of a Ten, I'd rather go shoot craps.

If I don't have my ultra/aggressive image going, the right play here would be to.... FOLD?

Definitely - you've got little in hand and you'd need something special to come if you were to have anythhing worth raising with.

Fold and get out before you sink much more into a dead hand. You might see a pair of Queens come down (unlikely) or you might see absolutely nothing. The latter is more probably so unless you've reason to stay in (think the other is bluffing on even less perhaps?) get out.
