I am in a 800 player NL HOLDEM tourney. 190 players are left and I am pretty short stacked (T1700 100/200 blinds) but not completely desperate yet. The average stack is something like T4500.
I just stole the blinds and a limper bet going all-in with KQs to get me back to T1700 from T1200 (I was feeling desperate then). I am in 8th position holding Oueen Hearts Queen Diamonds It is folded to me. I go all-in figuring that I might get a call (my second all-in in a row) and hoping to double up. The button is at T3200 and calls. Blinds fold and he shows Ace Hearts King Spade
Flop is Two (Duece) Clubs Four Clubs Six Spade . Turn is Ace Clubs and the river is no help. I am out.
Looking back, and using a little 20/20 hindsight, I don't think I should have gone all-in here. If I had brought in for a raise pre-flop and been called, I may have won this hand on the flop. I may have even gotton an extra pre-flop call from the blinds and almost doubled up without having to risk my whole stack.
Was I too agressive here? Would it have been better to raise and then go all-in on the turn if the flop went my way? I usually play all-in or nothing when <10x BB. Am I acting too desperate in this situation? |

Raised preflop - if you stole the pot then, great it's a few easy chips when you're short. Then, see the flop and reassess the situation - with those cards, I would have folded and saved my all-in for another hand, it was just too early to tell.
A noble effort, at least you didn't go all in with crap, but it didn't pay off so perhaps be a little more observant next time around. |
